Coryx Throat Solution

CORYX THROAT is used for temporary relief of pain and discomfort in sore throats due to colds (and accompanying tickling cough). It is also recommended for minor mouth irritations.

Do not use CORYX THROAT:

• If you are allergic to local anaesthetics or to any of the other ingredients in CORYX THROAT.
• CORYX THROAT contains acesulfame-K and must not be used if you have phenylketonuria.

Take special care with CORYX THROAT:

• CORYX THROAT should not be used in children under the age of 2 years.

Use CORYX THROAT as a gargle and mouth wash. Do not swallow. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

CORYX THROAT may cause staining and an increase of tartar on your teeth. Brushing with toothpaste which controls tartar and flossing your teeth daily may help reduce this tartar build-up and staining. In addition, you should visit your dentist at least every 6 months to have your teeth cleaned and your gums examined.

Using CORYX THROAT with food and drink: CORYX THROAT may have a bitter aftertaste. Do not rinse your mouth with water immediately after using CORYX THROAT, since doing so will increase the bitterness. Rinsing may also decrease the effect of CORYX THROAT. CORYX THROAT may change the way food tastes. Sometimes this effect may last for up to 4 hours after you have used the oral rinse. In most cases this effect will become less noticeable as you continue to use CORYX THROAT. When you stop using CORYX THROAT, your taste should return to normal.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: The safety of this preparation in pregnancy and lactation has not been established. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding your baby please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other health care professional for advice before using CORYX THROAT.

Driving and using machinery: When used correctly CORYX THROAT is safe.

Using other medicines with CORYX THROAT: Always tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other medicine. (This includes complementary or traditional medicines.)

The recommended dose of CORYX THROAT should not be exceeded.

How to use the gargle

Always use CORYX THROAT exactly as indicated on the information leaflet or as your doctor has instructed you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Gargle: Adults: 15 - 30 mL (3 - 6 medicine measuresful) undiluted or diluted with a small quantity of warm water. Thoroughly rinse the mouth for about one minute every 3 - 4 hours as needed. Depending on the location of the pain, the solution should be swished around the mouth and/or used as a gargle. It should not be swallowed. CORYX THROAT should generally be used undiluted, but if stinging occurs, the rinse may be diluted with water.

Gargle: Children 6 to 12 years of age: Five (5) to fifteen (15) mL undiluted, or diluted with a small quantity of warm water and thoroughly rinse the mouth for about one minute every three (3) hours, as a gargle if able to do so, or as an oral rinse, every three (3) hours.

Spray: Adults: Four (4) to eight (8) sprays directly onto the painful or inflamed area, with a maximum 32 sprays per day.

Spray: Children: Two (2) to four (4) sprays directly onto the painful or inflamed area, with a maximum of 16 sprays per day. Rinse mouth and back of throat with the solution. Do not swallow the (excess) solution. Repeat every one and a half (1½) to three (3) hours as necessary.

How to use the spray (see pictures)

1. Remove the transparent cap from the nozzle before use.
2. Turn the nozzle sideways and upwards for 90 degrees in a clockwise direction (Figure 1).
3. Do not pull the nozzle upwards and to the front (Figure 2).
4. When using for the first time, depress/push the spray cap a few times until liquid is sprayed out from the nozzle.
5. Spray the correct number of sprays (see above for the Dosage) directly onto the painful or inflamed area, in the back of the throat, while avoiding spraying directly onto the teeth (Figure 3).
6. Do not breathe in while spraying as liquid may enter the bronchus or lung if sprayed while breathing in.
7. After use, rinse the tip of the nozzle under warm water, dry and turn the nozzle back to the original position for storage (Figure 4).
8. After use, replace the transparent cap to cover the nozzle.

If you have the impression that the effect of CORYX THROAT is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

If you use more CORYX THROAT than you should: If you think your child has swallowed CORYX THROAT get emergency help at once. In addition, if a child of any age drinks CORYX THROAT and has symptoms of alcohol intoxication, such as slurred speech, sleepiness, or a staggering or stumbling walk get emergency help immediately. In the event of overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, contact the nearest hospital or poison control centre.

If you forget to use CORYX THROAT: If you use CORYX THROAT regularly and you miss a dose, use it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosage schedule. Do not double dose.

CORYX THROAT can have side effects. The side effects of CORYX THROAT usually subside when the use of CORYX THROAT is stopped. These side effects include local skin sensitivity reactions, irritation of the eyes, mouth or tongue tip, staining of the tongue, teeth, tooth fillings or dentures, change in taste, burning of the tongue and an increase in tartar on teeth. CORYX THROAT may cause headache, shortness of breath, nausea, rapid heart rate, fatigue and lethargy, confusion or stupor, loss of consciousness, bluish color of the skin, especially the lips and fingers. If you experience any of these symptoms, report to your doctor immediately. You may be required to stop using CORYX THROAT. Not all side effects reported for CORYX THROAT are included in this leaflet. Should your general health worsen or if you experience any untoward effects while using CORYX THROAT, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other health care professional for advice.

Store at or below 25 ºC. Protect from light. Keep the container in the outer carton. Keep the container tightly closed. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the label. Store all medicine out of reach of children. Return all unused medicine to your pharmacist. Do not dispose of unused medicine in drains or sewerage systems (e.g. toilets).
