EMETROL is used for the symptomatic relief of nausea associated with gastrointestinal disorders, motion sickness and morning sickness in early pregnancy.

Do not take EMETROL:
- if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to sucrose, phosphoric acid or any of the other ingredients of EMETROL (listed in section 6).
- if you suffer from kidney problems.
- if you suffer from diabetes.
- if you suffer from a hereditary condition called fructose (fruit sugar) intolerance.
Warnings and precautions
Special care should be taken with EMETROL:
- if you suffer from diabetes mellitus because EMETROL contains sucrose, which may have an effect on your blood sugar levels.
- if nausea continues or recurs after EMETROL treatment, as this may be a sign of a serious condition.
Other medicines and EMETROL
Always tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicine (this includes all complementary or traditional medicines). If you are taking medicines on a regular basis, concomitant use of the medicine may cause undesirable interactions. Please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other health care professional for advice.
EMETROL with food and drink and alcohol
Fluids must not be taken immediately prior to or for at least 15 minutes after a dosage of EMETROL, because of the diluting effect.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other health care provider for advice before taking EMETROL.
Driving and using machines
It is not always possible to predict to what extent EMETROL may interfere with the daily activities of a patient. Patients should ensure that they do not engage in the above activities until they are aware of the measure to which EMETROL affects them.
3. How to take EMETROL
Do not share medicines prescribed for you with any other person. Always take EMETROL exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist or nurse have told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist or nurse if you are not sure.
The usual dose is:
Adults:
Two (2) to four (4) medicine measures (10 to 20 mL) initially. Repeat every 15 minutes until distress subsides. Do not to exceed five (5) doses in one hour.
Children over 3 years of age:
One (1) to two (2) medicine measures (5 to 10 mL) initially. Repeat every 15 minutes until distress subsides. Do not to exceed five (5) doses in one hour.
Motion sickness (car, air, etc.):
Adults: Three (3) to six (6) medicine measures (15 to 30 mL). Repeat every 15 minutes until distress subsides. Do not exceed five (5) doses in one hour.
Morning sickness:
Three (3) to six (6) medicine measures (15 to 30 mL). Dose should be taken on arising and repeated every three hours when needed.
Do not dilute, since this medicine must be at the correct concentration in order to work properly. For oral use only.
If you take more EMETROL than you should
In the event of overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, contact the nearest hospital or poison control centre. Treatment of overdosage is symptomatic and supportive.
If you forget to take EMETROL
Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.
4. Possible side effects
EMETROL can have side effects. Not all side effects reported for EMETROL are included in this leaflet. Should your general health worsen or if you experience any untoward effects while taking EMETROL, please consult your health care provider for advice. If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.
Reporting of side effects
If you get side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects to SAHPRA via the Med Safety APP (Medsafety X SAHPRA) and eReporting platform (who-umc.org) found on SAHPRA website. In addition, side effects can also be reported to [email protected]. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of EMETROL.
5. How to store EMETROL
- Store all medicines out of reach of children.
- Store at or below 25 ° C, and out of direct sunlight.
- Do not refrigerate.
- Store in the original package / container.
- Do not store in a bathroom.
- Do not use after the expiry date stated on the label / carton / bottle.
- Return all unused medicine to your pharmacist.
- Do not dispose of unused medicine in drains or sewerage systems (e.g., toilets).
