    S1

    1. What ZELARY 10 is and what it is used for

ZELARY 10 contains the active substance called cetirizine dihydrochloride which is a non-sedating antihistamine. ZELARY 10 is used:

    • In adults and children aged 6 years and above, ZELARY 10 can rapidly relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose and itchy, burning eyes, whether these are due to hay fever or whether they occur all year round.
    • ZELARY 10 may also be taken for allergic skin conditions such as rash, itching or urticaria (hives).

    2. What you need to know before you take ZELARY 10

    Do not take ZELARY 10

    • if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, any piperazine derivatives or any of the other ingredients of ZELARY 10 (listed in section 6).
    • if you are pregnant or think that you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding.
    • if you have an end-stage kidney disease (severe renal failure requiring dialysis)
    • if you suffer from asthma and have previously experienced side effects to antihistamines
    • in children under 2 years of age

    Warnings and precautions

Some patients may experience sedative effects such as drowsiness or sleepiness. It is recommended to avoid the simultaneous use of alcohol with cetirizine as this may add to these effects as well as influence alertness and ability to drive and use machines.

Take special care with ZELARY 10 and speak to your doctor:

    • if you have porphyria
    • If you have problems passing urine (like spinal cord problems or prostate or bladder problems)
    • if you are an epileptic patient (have fits) or a patient at risk of convulsions
    • if you are scheduled for allergy testing, you should stop taking ZELARY 10 at least 3 days before testing, since it may affect your allergy test results.
    • It is recommended to avoid taking cetirizine with alcohol.

    Children

Do not give ZELARY 10 to children below the age of 6 years because the tablet formulation does not allow the necessary dose adjustments.

    Other medicines and ZELARY 10

Always tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicine. (This includes all complementary or traditional medicines.) There have been no reports of undesirable effects occurring when ZELARY 10 tablets has been taken at the same time as other medicines.

ZELARY 10 with food and alcohol

ZELARY 10 can be taken before or after meals. Avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking ZELARY 10 tablets.

    Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

If you are pregnant or breast feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other health care provider for advice before taking ZELARY 10. Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established.

    Driving and using machines

It is not always possible to predict to what extent ZELARY 10 may interfere with the daily activities of a patient. It is advisable to determine individual response before driving or performing complicated tasks, where loss of concentration may lead to accidents. ZELARY 10 may lead to drowsiness and impaired concentration which may be aggravated by simultaneous intake of alcohol or other central nervous system depressants (e.g., sedatives and tranquilisers).

ZELARY 10 contains lactose. This medicine contains lactose monohydrate. If you have been told that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

    3. How to take ZELARY 10

Do not share medicines prescribed for you with any other person. Always take ZELARY 10 exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

If you take more ZELARY 10 than you should
