Cefixime Tablets

The active substance is cefixime which belongs to the group of antibiotics called cephalosporins. CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED is indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic infections when caused by susceptible micro-organisms. Upper respiratory tract infections (infections of the ear, nose and throat); e.g. sore throat caused by bacteria, inflammation of the tonsils, middle ear infection, infection of the sinuses.

Lower respiratory tract infections, e.g. bronchitis. Urinary tract infections, e.g. acute bladder infection. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea (sexually transmitted disease).

Do not take CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED if you:

• Are allergic (hypersensitive) to cefixime or other cephalosporins (similar antibiotics) or to any of the ingredients of Cefixime 400 Tablets Resmed. An allergic reaction may include rash, itching, difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue.

Warnings and precautions

Take special care with CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED if you:

• Have had allergic reaction to cephalexin, cephalosporins, penicillins or other medicines in the past
• Have a severe kidney disorder (you may need reduced dose)
• Develop severe watery diarrhoea. This could be symptom of the inflammation of the large intestine. Other symptoms include pain and fever.
• If you have asthma or allergic tendencies.
• Develop a rash which blisters.

Other medicines and Cefixime 400 Tablets Resmed

Always tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicine. (This includes all complementary or traditional medicines.) Tell your doctor if:

• you are having blood and urine tests. CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED may interfere with these tests.
• you are taking probenecid for treatment of gout
• if you are taking medicines to thin the blood such as warfarin.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other health care provider for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines

This medicine can cause symptoms including fits (convulsions), feeling confused, feeling less alert or aware of things than usual, unusual muscle movements or stiffness. If you experience any of these effects don’t drive or use machinery.

Do not share medicines prescribed for you with any other person. Always take CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED exactly as your doctor has instructed you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. Your doctor will tell you how long your treatment with CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED will last. Do not stop treatment early because your infection may reoccur. If you have the impression that the effect of CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED is too strong or too weak, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take more Cefixime 400 Tablets Resmed than you should

In the event of overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available seek help at the nearest hospital or poison control centre. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting and stomach upset.

If you forget to take Cefixime 400 Tablets Resmed

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time to take the next dose, skip the missed dose and carry on as before. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you stop taking Cefixime 400 Tablets Resmed

Keep taking this medicine until your doctor tells you to stop. Do not stop taking it just because you feel better. If you stop taking this medicine, your infection may return or get worse.

CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED can have side effects. Not all side effects reported for CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED are included in this leaflet. Should your general health worsen or if you experience any untoward effects while taking CEFIXIME 400 TABLETS RESMED, please consult your health care provider for advice.

If any of the following happens, stop taking Cefixime 400 Tablets Resmed and tell your doctor immediately or go to the casualty department at your nearest hospital:

• Sudden swelling of the face, throat, lips or mouth. This can make it difficult to breathe or swallow.
• Sudden swelling of the hands, feet and ankles.
• Severe skin reactions, signs of which may include a severe rash that develops quickly, with blisters or peeling of the skin and possibly blisters in the mouth (Stevens - Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis which are also known as SJS and TEN).
• A combination of any of the following symptoms: widespread rash, high body temperature, liver enzyme elevations, blood abnormalities (eosinophilia), enlarged lymph nodes and other body organs involvement (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms which is also known as DRESS or drug hypersensitivity syndrome).

These are all very serious side effects. If you have them, you may have had a serious reaction to Cefixime 400 Tablets Resmed. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation.

Tell your doctor immediately or go to the casualty department at your nearest hospital if you develop severe diarrhoea. This is a serious side effect. You may need urgent medical attention.

Tell your doctor if you notice any of the following:

Frequent side effects:

• Diarrhoea
• Feeling itchy in the genital or vaginal area
• Thrush in the mouth (sore mouth and tongue)

Less frequent side effects:

• Bruising or bleeding more easily than normal
• nausea and vomiting
• antibiotic-associated inflammation of the large intestine
• jaundice
• skin rash and itchiness
• headache and dizziness
• fever caused by taking the medicine.

Frequency of side effects not known:

• Fits (convulsions)

If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children. Store at or below 30 ⁰ C. Protect from light.
