Lenafen 200 mg Tablets

LENAFEN is used for:

• The treatment of mild to moderate pain and fever of inflammatory origin for a treatment period not exceeding 10 days.

Do not take LENAFEN:

• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to or have had an allergic reaction (e.g., asthma, rhinitis, angioedema, urticaria) to ibuprofen or any other ingredient in LENAFEN (listed in section 6), aspirin or other related pain relievers.
• If you have or have ever had a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding due to NSAIDs.
• If you suffer from severe liver, kidney or from heart failure.
• If you are pregnant, do not use NSAIDs at 30 weeks or later in your pregnancy unless specifically advised to do so by your health care professional because these medicines may cause problems in your unborn baby.
• If you are taking other NSAIDs or aspirin.
• If you have history of recurrent bleeding/perforations or you suffer from conditions involving an increased tendency to bleed e.g., haemophiliacs (disorder in which the blood does not clot normally).

Do not share medicines prescribed for you with others. Always take LENAFEN exactly as described in this leaflet. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration of treatment. The usual dose is:

Adults and children over 12 years: Initial dose Take 1 or 2 tablets orally every four to six hours after food or milk. Do not exceed 6 tablets in any 24 hours. Not to be given to children under 12 years. Do not take this medicine continuously for fever for more than 3 days or for more than 10 days for pain without consulting a doctor.

If you have the impression that the effect of LENAFEN is too strong or too weak, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take more LENAFEN than you should In the event of overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, contact the nearest hospital or poison control centre. The most likely symptoms of overdosage are stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, lethargy and drowsiness.

If you forget to take LENAFEN Take your missed dose as soon as you remember if within a few hours after missing a dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten individual doses.

LENAFEN can cause side effects. Not all side effects reported for LENAFEN are included in this leaflet. Should your general health worsen or if you experience any unwanted effects while taking LENAFEN, please consult your health care provider for advice.

If any of the following happens, stop taking LENAFEN and tell your doctor immediately or go to the casualty department at your nearest hospital:

• If you have an allergic reaction such as flushing, itching, nausea and vomiting, swelling of the mouth and tongue, bruising, painful red areas peeling or blistering, wheezing or shortness of breath, a sudden drop in blood pressure;
• blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals as these may be due to a serious allergic reaction known as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS). These are all very serious side effects. If you have them, you may have had a serious allergic reaction to LENAFEN. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation.
• Tell your doctor immediately or go to the casualty department at your nearest hospital if you notice any of the following:
• If you have any sign of bleeding in the stomach or intestine, for example, when emptying your bowels, blood in vomit or black, tarry faeces;
• if you have a severe headache, high temperature, stiffness of the neck or intolerance to bright light;
• unexplained stomach pain or other abnormal stomach symptoms, indigestion, heartburn, feeling sick and/or vomiting;
• unexplained wheezing, shortness of breath, skin rash, itching or bruising;
• yellowing of the eyes and/or skin;
• severe sore throat with high fever;
• LENAFEN has been associated with an increased risk of heart attack (myocardial infarction) or stroke;
• blood disorders, kidney problems, liver problems;
• LENAFEN may cause aseptic meningitis (inflammation of the protective membrane surrounding the brain).
• Skin becomes sensitive to light.

Store at or below 25 °C. Protect from light. Protect from moisture. Keep the blisters in the carton until required for use. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the label. Return all unused medicine to your pharmacist. Do not dispose of unused medicine in drains or sewerage systems (e.g., toilets). STORE ALL MEDICINES OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
