Impilo Diarrhoea Mixture 1,875 g/65,0 mg Suspension

IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE is used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderately acute diarrhoea in conjunction with rest, fluids and appropriate diet.

Do not take IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE

• if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to kaolin and pectin or any of the other ingredients of IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE (listed in section 6).
• if you have a blockage in your bowel that prevents food or liquid from passing through.
• if you suffer from an ulcer of the gastrointestinal tract, or have undergone a colostomy.
• IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE should not be given to infants and children up to 3 years of age.

Warnings and precautions

Take special care with IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE:

• When using IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE in children and the elderly, ensure adequate fluid intake (hydration), because of the risk of loss of fluid and body salt (electrolytes).
• The absorption of other medicines, notably digoxin, a heart medicine, from the gastrointestinal tract may be reduced if taken at the same time. Other medicines should therefore not be taken at the same time as IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE.
• Speak to your doctor if the symptoms worsen or do not improve after 48 hours.

Do not share medicines prescribed for you with any other person. Always take IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

SHAKE THE BOTTLE BEFORE USE.

The dose should be taken in water 3 to 4 times daily.

Children:

• 3 to under 6 years: 1,5 to 3 medicine measures (7,5 to 15 ml)
• 6 to under 12 years: 3 to 6 medicine measures (15 to 30 ml)
• 12 years and over: 6 medicine measures (30 ml)

Adults and adolescents:

6 to 12 medicine measures (30 to 60 ml)

NOT FOR USE IN CHILDREN UNDER THREE YEARS OF AGE.

If the symptoms persist for more than 48 hours, or if your condition gets worse, IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE must be stopped, and a doctor must be consulted.

When treating diarrhoea, it is important to maintain hydration by administering adequate fluids and or electrolytes.

If you take more IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE than you should

In the event of overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, contact the nearest hospital or poison centre.

If you forget to take IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE

Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.

IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE can have side effects. Not all side effects reported for IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE are included in this leaflet. Should your general health worsen, or if you experience any untoward effects while taking IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE, please consult your health care provider for advice.

Tell your doctor if you notice any of the following:

Side effects with unknown frequency:

• Constipation may occur.
• Blocking of the intestine may also occur after taking IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE.

If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

If you get side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of IMPILO DIARRHOEA MIXTURE.

Store all medicines out of reach of children.

• Store at or below 25 ˚C in a cool place.
• Keep the bottle tightly closed.
• Do not store in a bathroom.
• Do not use after the expiry date stated on the label.
• Return all unused medicine to your pharmacist.
• Do not dispose of unused medicine in drains or sewerage systems (e.g. toilets).
